“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”—Nelson Mandela. The Agurchand Manmull Jain College is one of the oldest colleges in Chennai, established in 1952. The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in 1977, the Golden Jubilee in 2002 and the Diamond Jubilee year in 2012-2013. The college is functioning with two shifts (Shift-I and Shift-II). Shift-I is government aided with 8 undergraduate, 4 postgraduate courses and 4Research courses. Shift-II is self-financing stream with 22 undergraduate courses and 3Postgraduate courses. Software Applications is one of the prestigious courses started in Shift-II.

The Department of Software Applications is one among the 18 academic departments of the Agurchand Manmull Jain College, Shift-II. The course was started in the year 2008. The Department has 16 dedicated faculty members having specializations in Computer Networks, Operating Systems, Programming Languages, Database Management Systems and Data Mining etc. Among the 16 faculty members, 5 have cleared SET, 2 have cleared NET and 3 have completed Ph.D. in Computer Science.

The distinguished Software Applications course helps the students to get more knowledge about the current trends and happenings in the IT industry. Initially we started the course with 34 students and now the strength has increased up to nearly 200 energetic students. The department has two sections, from 2017-2018. We have a well-equipped Computer Centre with 7 Computer Lab and 1 Microprocessor Lab and 1 server room, facilitated with advanced configuration systems and software. We extend our service to teach computer oriented subjects for other departments like B.Com(ISM), B.Com(Computer Applications), B.Sc. (Maths with Computer Applications), BBA & BA(TTM).
