About the department

During the year 2015 the Department of Home Science- Interior Design and Decor course was initiated as a job oriented course in the afternoon session under the guidance of the principal Dr.G.K.Francis.

The Department of Home Science- Interior Design and Decor is a multifaceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied with in a structure to achieve beautiful interior environment. These solutions are functional and enhance the quality of life of the students. There is a great scope for students to get interior designer training. And also students get knowledge about the planning the interior spaces of almost all buildings like offices, airport, terminals, theatres, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, schools, hospitals and residences. The students get the knowledge about the material and the products that will be used to create and furnish the spaces, texture, colour and lighting and other factors combine and interact to make a space lovable.

This Department develops advances the interior design discipline through excellence in teaching and service. Developing through producing graduates where professional, creative activities contribute to the theory, practical knowledge, technical skills & professional ethics to practice interior design. The faculty make creative people who enjoy solving problems and able to visualize three-dimensionally. Interior designers and decorators are independent thinkers and innovators. They create inspiring, functional, socially responsible and aesthetic designs for private residential, corporate, public and exhibition spaces by using colour, architectural design and decor. The scope of training opens doors to many career opportunities in the world of interior design and architecture where graduates will work with both the structural and cosmetic aspects of interiors. This department consists of six laboratories to meet the demands of students from very beginning level to advanced level. The laboratories are Interior Decoration lab, Textiles lab, Building Studio Lab, Printing and dyeing lab, Foods lab, and AutoCAD lab.
