About the department

The Department of Electronics and Communication Science was started in the year 2015 with the approval of the University of Madras. The UG course for B.Sc., Electronics and Communication Science was started with the strength of sanctioned 50 seats. The course helps equip the students with knowledge in advanced technology and use electronic equipments with proper understanding. The Electronics equipments Laboratory is well equipped with digitalised electronic equipments, to enable students implement their knowledge using laboratory sessions. The lab can accommodate 50 students in one batch to practise their experiments.

The term “Electronics and Communication Science” denotes a discipline that combines electronics, computer ,information and communication technology. This field covers sub fields such as analogelectronics, digital electronics, consumer electronics, embedded systems, communication systems and power electronics. Electronics science deals with implementation of applications, principles and algorithms developed within many related fields. For example solid-state physics, radio engineering, telecommunications, control systems, signal processing, computer, instrumentation, electric power control, robotics, and many others.

The availability of affordable means of communication has been one of electronics’ greatest contributions to the human society.

Other example includes advanced wavelength division multiplexing schemes, promising vast reductions in the cost of long-distance data transmission.

Soon, Fourth Generation systems will unify all these technologies and users will be able to receive and transmit anything, at any time, from anywhere.
